Tastemaker Jenni Kayne Sells Branded Santa Ynez Ranch

Rebuilt and reimagined by multidisciplinary designer, entrepreneur, and lifestyle maven Jenni Kayne and her creative team, a hilltop ranch house near Santa Barbara, in California’s oak-strewn and wine-centric Santa Ynez Valley, has sold for its full asking price of $5.995 million.

A tireless entrepreneur (and the fortunately born daughter of billionaire Los Angeles investor Richard Kayne), Kayne founded her eponymous brand more than 20 years ago, at just 19 years old. Since then, she’s grown her brand of comfortable, approachable luxury into a lifestyle empire that includes more than 20 retail outlets from coast to coast, as well as a comprehensive line of furniture and home goods and a skincare line. Considering an IPO next year, Kayne’s Pacific Group tallied up $130 million in revenue in 2022.

Purchased as an investment, Kayne’s company acquired the scenic rural spread out of foreclosure about three years ago for just under a million dollars. The spectacularly positioned if otherwise ordinary and dilapidated mid-1970s ranch house, which presides over 19 rolling acres in the exclusive Woodstock Ranch equestrian community, was transformed in the easy-going but elevated California style for which Kayne is synonymous.

Pared down to its bare essentials and infused with a curated palette of rich textures and earthy neutral colors that bring the natural world inside, the nearly 3,900-square-foot home is bathed in warm natural light. Oversized and well-positioned windows frame sweeping views over the surrounding mountains and developed as a fully branded project, the four-bedroom and four-and-a-half-bath home is filled with comfortable, tailored furniture and other carefully considered home goods. Each of the bedrooms has a private bath and direct access to the outdoors, while the primary suite, with a vaulted ceiling, fitted walk-in closet and mountain-view soaking tub, is a serene sanctuary for slumber and repose.

Interior spaces optimize an easy relationship with the outdoors. An expansive deck, partly shaded by a peaked pergola, spans the width of the house above a newly installed swimming pool and spa sited for languid soaks surrounded by the spectacular scenery.

After the two-year overhaul was completed, Kayne’s company hosted experiential getaway weekends of yoga, spa treatments, wine-tasting and farm-to-table dining. Among those who posted about their stays on social media are stylist/TV personality Brad Goreski and fashion blogger Aimee Song.
